The Transformer 112 and 212 are modeling amps because they do model various other amps, but they are not "digital modeling amps" per se. They are real Peavey TransTube amps (analog preamp and poweramp) with a DSP modeling area that takes care of the 3-band EQ (which functions much like the amp option), the closet emulation, and the integrated results and tuner. The "difficult" parts of the tone are the non-linear elements like distortion, compression, and other dynamically controlled mojo that are difficult to design electronically. The Transformer appears and feels like an actual amp - considering that it is one.
